Kelley (Leahy) Hill ’80 (CAHNR) ’94 MS

Kelley (Leahy) Hill ’80 (CAHNR) ’94 MS is the Head of Global Medical Writing at Alexion Pharmaceuticals, a biopharmaceutical company focused on serving patients with rare and ultra-rare disorders. Her early career included 17 years as the Manager of Biology Lab Services at UConn Storrs. After completion of an MS in Pharm/Tox, she shifted career focus to bench research and drug development project management in several biotech and pharma companies that has matured to her current role, leading clinical writing efforts to support drug development from first-in-human to life cycle management of marketed products. She is an active member of the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association, and also supports the Open Door food bank that serves Cape Ann (Massachusetts) communities.

Phillip Champagne ’06 (CAHNR) and Krystal (Hawks) Champagne ’06 (CLAS)

Phillip Champagne ’06 (CAHNR) and Krystal (Hawks) Champagne ’06 (CLAS) welcomed their first child on July 22, 2017. Julian Phillippe Champagne weighed 7 lbs, 12 oz and measured 19 3/4″ long. The family resides in North Branford, Conn.

Jessica (Lennon) Karolidis ’06 (CLAS) and Evangelos Karolidis ’05 (CAHNR) welcomed their first daughter Penelope Maria Karolidis on June 26, 2017. Jessica and Evangelos were married June 20, 2015.

Tom Morganti ’76 (CAHNR)

Dr. Tom Morganti ’76 (CAHNR) a Veterinarian living and working in Avon, Conn., has just published a first novel, Totenkopf, a thriller set in Germany in the final days of WWII.

Kate Moran Connolly ’03 (CAHNR)

Kate Moran Connolly ’03 (CAHNR) is the Physician’s Assistant in Bridgeport Hospital’s Burn Unit. She earned a degree in Nutritional Science with a minor in Exercise Physiology at UConn several years ago, became a registered dietician, and worked for several years at Bridgeport Hosp. She earned her PA in Philidelphia, Pa., recently (9 months ago) became a mother, and just spent a year as Bridgeport Hospital’s Employee of the Year. This note was submitted by Kate’s father, Jack Moran, who is very proud of her accomplishments.

Marikate Murren ’89 (CLAS), ’96 MA was recently named Vice President, Human Resources at MGM Springfield which is due to open in September 2017.

Dr. John Thomas Marcoux ’89 (CAHNR)

Dr. John Thomas Marcoux ’89 (CAHNR) of Sudbury, MA, is the recipient of the 2017 American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeon’s (ACFAS) Distinguished Service Award, one of the College’s highest honors. The ACFAS Board of Directors presents this award each year to recognize those members who volunteer their time, expertise and service behind the scenes to advance the College’s mission. Dr. Marcoux is the fourteenth recipient of this distinguished honor and was presented with the award at ACFAS’ Annual Scientific Conference in Las Vegas on February 28, 2017.

Maura A. Power ’94 MA

Maura A. Power ’94 MA ran her first marathon in Clonakilty, Ireland this past December. She was sponsored by Vibram and Team Hoyt Running Chairs to promote the movement of Inclusion of assisted athletes. Team Hoyt Running Chairs offer those with disabilities “to experience the thrill of the race”.

Norman Freyer ’58 (CAHNR)

Norman Freyer ’58 (CAHNR), was recently awarded a lifetime membership in the Citrus Watercolor Society. He is a past-president of the society and the only lifetime member. He is also a member of the Nature Coast Painters art critique group, an associate member of the Florida Watercolor Society, and The Art Center of Citrus County. His work can be seen on his website.

Christopher George Clark ’72 (CAHNR), ’73 MS

Christopher George Clark ’72 (CAHNR), ’73 MS of Storrs Conn. departed this life on September 9, 2016. Born and raised in Hartford, Chris is survived by his wife Penny, four children, two step-children, and three siblings.
