Laura Scarpa ’02 (NUR) is a proud Honors scholar and UConn alumnae. She played on the Women’s club ice hockey team and was also on the Inaugural Division I Women’s Ice Hockey team.
2 years ago, the Women’s Ice Hockey team honored Scarpa at the Alumni game, allowing her to drop the puck as the recipient of the “Friends of Mel” grant for breast cancer survivors. At that time she still held the record for most assists in a game. In 2014 Scarpa was diagnosed with Stage IIIb Triple Negative Invasive breast cancer and underwent treatment of chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation. Her activity in sports and well as her grit from the nursing profession definitely helped her along this journey.
At this time she is thriving in her profession, currently working as the Practice Manager for New England Plastic Surgery Center in Waterford, Conn. for a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, and fellow UConn alumnus, Dr. John C. Lee ’97 (CLAS), ’01 MD. The majority of the practice is for breast reconstruction related to breast cancer.
