The Italian Riviera and the Lakes PDF Print E-mail

October 9-18, 2010

There is no such thing as seeing too much of Italy! Our plan is to explore little-by-little, and experience all parts in depth. This time we are concentrating on the north, from the shores of the Mediterranean through the beautiful lake district bordering on Switzerland. These are the areas of Liguria and Piemonte.

We spend 3 nights in Santa Margherita Ligure, a fashionable seaside resort, and 5 nights in Stresa on Lake Maggiore, well positioned, using the finest hotels. Liguria is best known for its marvelous marine vistas, and as the point from which to reach the magical Cinque Terre, the 5 charming fishing villages accessible only from the sea. We move on to the Piemonte, to the beautiful town of Stresa, renowned for magnificent tropical gardens on the shores of the lake, with the backdrop of the Swiss Alps to the north. We visit the famous Borromean Islands, and the lakes of Lugano, Lake Como, and Lake Orta Our Italian tour-planners know all the special corners of Italy!

To round out the itinerary we are offering an optional 3-night extension in Florence.

Of course we use only the finest hotels and include several meals in charming local restaurants that are a gastronomic delight. We will even have a private wine-tasting at a vineyard owned by the family of a UConn alum since 1600. October in Italy is a perfect time – the harvest has begun, and touring conditions are the best!
