OOzeball

OOzeball is a single-elimination, regulation volleyball tournament…with one exception. OOzeball is played in 8 inches of mud! It is one of the most popular events held on campus. Over 1,000 students and spectators join the Student Alumni Association to celebrate this annual tournament.

In 2004, OOzeball celebrated its 21st year at UConn and was chosen by Sports Illustrated as the “Best Mud Volleyball” in the country in the "Best of College Sports" issue. In addition to this, Sports Illustrated: On Campus voted OOzeball No. 33 on its list of the “Top 100 Things To Do Before You Graduate: No Matter The Cost.”

Month of Kindness "Apples For Good Apples"

The Month of Kindness began in 2001 as an attempt to bring kindness to the forefront of the UConn community. Observed in November, this provides the opportunity to unite all departments, organizations, students and faculty under the umbrella of kindness. Last year, SAA played a role in the Month of Kindness by setting up a table in the library for a week in November for our event, Teacher Appreciation Cards.

Our Teacher Appreciation Cards gave students the opportunity to say “thank you” to their favorite professor and/or TA, both past and present. SAA received the “Outstanding Contribution” award for reaching out to an aspect of the campus that had not been done previously. This year SAA is trying something new. Our "Apples For Good Apples" program will give you a chance to thank your favorite professor or TA for all the hard work they do with a delicious candied apple.

New Student Picnics

Each year the eight in-state chapters of the Alumni Association welcome incoming students to the UConn family by hosting picnics in their areas. The SAA members serve as ambassadors at these picnics by interacting with new students and filling them in on all there is to know about UConn before arriving on campus.

Care Packages

Each year the SAA distributes care packages to over 2,000 students. This program offers parents and family members an opportunity to send well wishes and tasty treats to students on four separate occasions each academic year. This program has been very successful and the proceeds are used by the SAA to support programs and events for the students.
