The Dedication - June 6, 2009

The Roll of Honor
The Roll of Honor was unveiled in the Alumni Center on June 6, 2009, the 65th anniversary of D-Day. It is located in the west end of the Alumni Center lobby.

The Roll of Honor was dedicated on June 6, 2009, the 65th anniversary of D-Day, the allied invasion of Europe during World War II.

The ceremony, part of the Alumni Association's annual reunion weekend, took place in the Alumni Center on the Storrs campus.

The Roll of Honor lists the names of 131 University of Connecticut alumni who have fallen while serving in defense of the United States.

Drapped in black velvet, the roll is located at the west end of the Alumni Center lobby. After the Roll was unveiled on June 6, members of the University’s ROTC cadet corps read all of the names listed.

Making the ceremony all the more poigniant and moving was the lighting of a candle by members of the family of Alan R. Morehouse. Morehouse was killed during the D-Day invasion on the beaches of France.

Myles Martel, a member of UConn’s Class of 1965 and chair of the Memorial Committee, delivered welcoming remarks and spoke about the memorial and the Roll of Honor.  Martel also is a member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors, and he initiated the drive to erect the Ultimate Sacrifice Memorial.
