Elizabeth T. Beaudin '74, '80 M.S.N., '06 Ph.D.

University Service Award 2009

The Connecticut Hospital Association
Director, Nursing and Workforce Initiatives

Nominated By: Anne R. Bavier

Elizabeth is being recognized for her work as an outstanding professional leader and UConn advocate. As Chair of the School of Nursing Advisory Board since 2005 she has increased the support for research and fundraising efforts among many other essential contributions to the School’s goals of becoming a top 20 school of nursing in the United States. She works hard to recruit alumni and corporate support for the School and has a natural ability to engage constituents in activities that further the goals of the University. Since 2000 in her role as Director of Nursing and Workforce Initiatives at the Connecticut Hospital Association (CHA), Elizabeth's chief focus has been congruent with the mission of the UConn School of Nursing: To shape the future of human health. Because of her leadership position at CHA, she influences health care as a registered lobbyist with the state legislature for issues affecting nursing and allied health. She is a member of The Connecticut Allied Healthcare Workforce Policy Board, The Career ladder Advisory Committee, the Connecticut Healthcare Workforce Coalition, and Area Health Education Centers Advisory Board to name a few.

Always willing to serve UConn, Elizabeth responds to media requests, serves as a preceptor for graduate nursing students in the administrative track, and has taught on the adjunct Nursing faculty for UConn as well as for Yale University, University of Hartford, Central Connecticut State University and Western Connecticut State University.

"Liz serves as an exceptional role model in all settings for the University. She works above and beyond her job description and her commitment to the community at large is witnessed in all of her statewide activities. She has had a most positive effect on the lives of nurses and the individuals for whom nurses provide care. The citizens of Connecticut ultimately benefit from the interdisciplinary collaboration at the state level that is fostered by Liz in her multiple professional roles." - Mary Jane M. Williams, Ph.D., R.N.
