Honorary Alumni Award
Senior Associate Director
Student Activities, University of Connecticut
Nominated By: Sherry Lawrence '95
Kevin started at the University of Hartford in 1969 and also worked at Youngstown State University in Ohio before joining UConn in 1978. Kevin has held numerous positions and supervised a variety of student union and student activities areas while at UConn, including Greek Life, Community Outreach, the Rainbow Center and Student Leadership Development. Kevin co-chaired the Student Union renovation project, helped organize the Student Union 50th Anniversary Reunion and the Student Union re-dedication in 2006. Since 1988 Kevin has been actively involved with the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association serving as its President since 1995, a position he will be leaving this coming June, making him the longest serving president in UCPEA's 35-year history.
With all that he has accomplished, his first love and true passion has been advising the Student Union Board of Governors (SUBOG). He teaches them how to be leaders on campus and instills in them a sense of pride that they carry with them after they leave. Kevin makes it a point to keep his former SUBOG students connected with emails, newsletters and events.
"Being an alumnus is more than just rooting for the home team, it's about bringing people together, inspiring them to support UConn, and sharing in pride, loyalty and traditions. For those reasons, the intangible ones that bond people together, Kevin should be distinguished as an honorary UConn alumnus." - Debra Holcomb '90
