David Tiberio, Professor Emeritus, Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Connecticut and Academic Dean at the Gray Institute in Adrian, Michigan, has been selected to receive the third Outstanding Physical Therapy Professional Award from the Neag School of Education Alumni Society of the University of Connecticut. Dr. Tiberio received his B.S. Degree (1973) in Physical Therapy and M.S. (1981) degree in Allied Health Education from the School of Allied Health at the University of Connecticut. He received his Ph.D. (1995) in Sport Biomechanics from the Kinesiology Department at the Neag School of Education. He was selected to receive this award for three important reasons: his longstanding leadership in physical therapy private practice, a sustained commitment to the University of Connecticut and physical therapy education, and his service efforts to both his profession and his community.

Dr. Tiberio is recognized internationally as a clinician and scholar for his work in movement science and musculoskeletal physical therapy. Dr Craig Denegar, Head of the Physical Therapy Department, writes that "David truly impacted the lives of hundreds of physical therapy students and indirectly the patients they treat, as well as numerous graduate students he mentored over the years."

Dr. Tiberio has published widely, has been recognized as an outstanding teacher and has been acclaimed as a highly skilled clinician. His professional life has been dedicated to integrating the foundations of kinesiology into the practice of physical therapy and rehabilitation. Dr. Tiberio is the 2007 recipient of the American Physical Therapy Association's Henry O. and Florence P. Kendall Award for outstanding and enduring contributions to the practice of Physical Therapy.

Dr. Tiberio will be recognized at the Annual Awards Dinner of the Neag School of Education on Saturday, May 16, 2009.
