Steven R. Jenkins, C.P.A.’99 JD, ’12 MBA, ’15 ML has been appointed as a Trustee to the Connecticut Laborers’ Pension, Health, and Annuity Funds. Steve is General Counsel and Compliance Director for regional construction firm Manafort Brothers Incorporated headquartered in Plainville, Conn.

Barbara Jean Beck Beeching ’10 Ph.D

Barbara Jean Beck Beeching’s ’10 Ph.D book, Hopes and Expectations: The Origins of the Black Middle Class in Hartford, was published by SUNY Press in January of this year. It is based on her dissertation.

Beeching’s first degree, in Journalism, was earned in 1950 at the University of Missouri. Late in life she returned to academia, earning an M.A. in American Studies at Trinity College in 1996 and a Ph.D. in History at the University of Connecticut in 2010.

Jordan Bennett ’11 (CLAS)

Jordan Bennett ’11 (CLAS) will be joining The Berman Group – a marketing, public relations, and event planning firm based in New York City. As Senior Public Relations Manager, Jordan Bennett will lead the public relations and digital strategy for a portfolio of clients in commercial real estate, construction, and urban development. Prior to joining The Berman Group, Jordan was a member of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign’s rapid response communications team, and previously served as the Associate Director of Communications for the mayor of Washington, D.C., Muriel Bowser.

Donald McKenzie Jr. ’10 (CLAS) is proud to announce the launch of his new company, Greenwich SEO Services, LLC. They help local small business owners get new customers, using the power of the internet. The name of the company caters to Donald’s hometown of Greenwich, Conn. His passion for helping business owners utilize the internet was featured in the Greenwich Free Press.

Eric Patros ’10 (CLAS) and Linda (Van) Patros ’12 (CLAS), UConn sweethearts, were married in Prospect, Conn. on July 16, 2016 surrounded by 3 generations of proud UConn alumni.

Shane Kelly ’14 (ENG)

Shane Kelly ’14 (ENG), who is currently working on his Ph.D in Physics at UC Riverside, was selected as an one of the inaugural recipients of the UC-National Lab In-Residence Graduate Fellowship in which he’ll have the unique opportunity to conduct research and receive training at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in a project titled ‘Strongly Coupled Atomtronics’.

Kelcie Reid ’13 (CLAS), ’16 MS, JD

Kelcie Reid ’13 (CLAS), ’16 MS, JD has joined the Law Offices of John Q. Gale in downtown Hartford as an associate attorney. Reid was admitted to the Connecticut Bar Association in November after earning juris doctor and master’s in public health degrees from the University of Connecticut in May.

Ron Ciak ’11 (CLAS, ENG) and Collyn Seeger ’08 (CLAS), ’09 MS were married on Sunday, October 16, 2016 in Groton, Conn. at the Branford House on the UConn Avery Point Campus.

Salman Alzayani ’15 Ph.D

Salman Alzayani ’15 Ph.D was appointed as Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, College of Medicine and Medical Sciences in the Arabian Gulf University in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Alzayani was also elected to be a member in the College Council for the current academic year.
